To help speed more people into the environmental sector, the January Green Drinks event features Environment & Sustainability Career Pathways as a topic, with several high-profile speakers lined up:
When the world’s climate change negotiators meet in Doha in Qatar this month, they will try to resolve the difficult issues that have stymied policy progress for years. They will also seek to determine the immediate future of the Kyoto Protocol and develop a framework for a new protocol, legal instrument or an agreed outcome by 2015. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres outlined that the next steps on the climate change agenda include the decision by Parties on how the second commitment period is going to come into being, and firming up of the rules and technical details of quantified emissions reductions and possible new market-based mechanisms.
This presentation will examine the notable outcomes from Doha from the main negotiating tracks and conclude with a general outlook on where negotiations seem to be heading.

From CNA: Community engagement is the focus of Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) 2013, which kicks off November 3.
The public can participate in numerous activities, ranging from recycling craft workshops to environmental fashion shows.
New programmes include a hackathon, where programmers and developers brainstorm ideas to build and launch applications that will help the public adopt eco-friendly practices; and OpenIDEO Challenge, which is an online platform to bring the community together to discuss environmental issues.

J.wong Systems Thinking Presentation
This month, Julian Wong, the founder of Beijing Energy Network and author of The Green Leap Forward will share a new thought concept that emphasizes on looking into sustainability as a whole system. Speaking from his rich experience in energy advisory across multidisciplinary practices in both Asia and the U.S, he will identify a few real life examples where an enhanced awareness of systems thinking in the sustainability context would lead to vastly different result. Julian will also discuss the implications of systems thinking for each of us in creating a sustainable future.
