From Cleanbiz.Asia: The obsession of many ethnic Chinese for shark fin soup, primarily consumed as an ostentatious display of wealth, is the main reasons that many shark species have become a global endangered species. Pollution and habitat loss have also contributed to the problem which has led to about a third of ocean-going sharks being placed on the internationally-recognised Red List of Threatened Species.

The report entitled ‘Style over Substance‘ covers 15 designer fashion companies. Many of the high-street brands like H&M and Primark have CSR initiatives in place that ensure proper working conditions for their workers apart from supply chain accountability. However designer brands face little pressure to invest in CSR. The report calls ‘for the luxury sector to take responsibility and start reporting on its social and environmental impacts.

California Senate Voters to Ban Trade of Shark Fins in California, It’s Now up to Governor Brown

“Earlier this week, the Senate voted with the bill, helping get the bill one step closer to becoming law. AB376 will ban on the sale, trade, possession, and distribution of shark fins in the state – but it must be signed by Governor Jerry Brown by October 9, 2011 in order to become law.”

Nature Will Decompose Your Waste

As a species, we’ve sorta forgotten that most of the stuff we’ve invented and created from fossil fuels and all that aren’t really suited to the environment. Nature can’t handle the stuff we throw out anymore. When it used to be burnt wood and spears made from stone and all that, it was fine. We could use and dispose all we wanted. But now that we’ve got all these processes and compounds and chemicals and all that, Mother Nature can’t handle that s**t.
